Drawing us in with an evocative, soul rock energy with a stunning strings riser and glistening bell synths, Munk Duane opens We’ve Talked About This Before with situational prose and poetic prowess, something that we have come to love and expect from the talented songwriter and multi-instrumentalist.
We are taken on an introspective and relatable journey with Munk Duane‘s lyricism, and his accompanying soundscape showcases nothing short of instrumental mastery. The pizzicato guitar is divine, and fuses cohesively with Munk’s luscious vocal timbre and visual brand of storytelling. The middle eight proves to be a meditative moment with sound design intricacies, leading us to a epic finale featuring an out of this world guitar solo, leaving us yearning for more.
Speaking in depth on the intention behind We’ve Talked About This Before, Munk Duane confesses, “The song highlights the difficulty of dealing with loved ones as they age, and leaning into new expressions of love through patience. Conversation loops become common place, especially with dementia patients. They become stuck on repeat and frequently address the same topic multiple times in a single conversation. The new song is about trying to see the loop like a “needle skipping on your favorite song” and just allowing it to play out like it’s the first time you’ve heard the story, because sadly, it may soon be the last.”
We learn that the Boston based recording artist and film composer recently enjoyed a significant career milestone with his song Myths being deemed eligible by the Recording Academy for Grammy® consideration in the Best Pop Solo Performance category in the 66th Annual Grammy® Awards!
Written, performed and produced by Duane himself, We’ve Talked About This Before was mastered by Brian Lucey at Magic Garden Mastering, Los Angeles, who worked on Grammy® winning releases for The Black Keys, Lizzo, the soundtrack to “The Greatest Showman”, and more.
We love the holistic and philosophical depth that Munk Duane shares with his art and message, and have added We’ve Talked About This Before to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, and anticipate future releases from the star.
