Perfectly aligned with today’s full moon, Aurealis has released his new single, Exquisite. We last featured the artist for embracing the exhilaration of new love on vibrant 80s-inspired synth-pop single, How I Feel, so naturally, we were curious to see which direction he was taking with his new release.
Exquisite opens with a cosmic frequency and astral synth arpeggios before we experience the lyrics, “You’re exquisite, a light goes off when you walk by, I feel my face flush, feel a twitch in my eye, but you’re not for me and I’m not for you, can’t have these thoughts cause I’m a married guy…”
Aurealis continues, “So this conversation, stays inside my mind…”. In essence, the song is very literally about a married man who feels insanely attracted to someone that he knows he cannot pursue. Aurealis struggles with these feelings, recognizing they are inappropriate, so he keeps his desire and admiration to himself.
It’s provocative but relatable. At its core it’s chivalrous and wholesome, but makes a very poignant commentary on the naturally polyamorous nature of men – an energy that has been suppressed by conformity and constructs. This is further brought to life by the stunning and futuristic film-noir music video which brings the narrative to life with an LGBTQ twist.

On a sonic niveau, Exquisite is a manifestation of its name. It is a glossy, cinematic synth-pop track and is accompanied by a striking black, white and silver visual universe that is designed to expand the song’s push and pull through mirrors, light, reflections and two magnetic figures circling one another.
We could imagine the track landing a slew of sync placements in TV shows like Heated Rivalry, Adults, or Elite, and also movies like In the Mood for Love, Brief Encounter, The Bridges of Madison County, Unfaithful and Lost in Translation, which all tap into similar themes as the lyrics are open to same sex and different sex connections.
As always, we are in awe and have added Exquisite to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Aurealis, including Cursed, Fire in Rain, and Shadow of a Doubt.
