Our obsession with Ricky Earlywine seems to grow with every listen. We last featured the rising artist of his song sovereignty, which served as a spiritual anthem of self-mastery, rebirth, and personal power, so when we found out that Ricky was back with the grace code, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
the grace code opens with hummed vocalizations and a cosmic soundscape featuring R&B riffs and Ricky’s captivating timbre as he shares philosophical lyricism and his lived experience with wisdom and clarity. We always appreciate the combination of Ricky’s raw authenticity and intelligent depth.
In essence, the grace code is about protecting our peace without surrendering compassion. Ricky shares it with the mantra “no malice in my palace, no hate in my space” which becomes a playful yet powerful declaration of boundaries and self-respect. The production feels magical, shimmering and almost fairytale-like, whilst the lyrics are sharp as Ricky challenges hypocrisy and social expectations.
He intelligently says, “the grace code grew out of a period of thinking a lot about sincerity, boundaries, social expectations and the way people can say things like “I love you” while behaving in ways that don’t reflect love at all. I kept coming back to the idea that peace doesn’t have to mean passivity. You can be kind, compassionate and open-hearted while still being very selective about who gets access to you.”

We appreciate the cinematic quality of the composition, which feels like a nostalgic collision between 90s/Y2K R&B-pop and the theatrical wonder of the soundtracks Ricky grew up with. We can totally hear echoes of Disney films and Nickelodeon shows, but with a futuristic twist. It would be perfect for an episode of My Life with the Walter Boys, or a Bratz movie.
Ricky confesses, “the grace code pulls from a mix of my current vocal influences and music that shaped me growing up. Vocally, Tori Kelly and Ariana Grande are major reference points for me, especially in the way I approach runs, upper-register details, harmonies and layered background vocals. But the instrumental world also draws from childhood influences that are less obvious, including Disney soundtracks.”
Needless to say, we continue to be in awe of what Ricky Earlywine creates, and have added the grace code to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream his ever-growing discography, and anticipate future releases from the compelling artist.
