We previously featured Ricky Earlywine when he reflected on resilience, rebirth, and self-reclamation with his single, Move Like This, so when we heard that the rising talent was back with sovereignty, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his universe once again.
sovereignty opens with ethereal, pitched vocalizations tapping into a spiritual and ancestral energy, accompanied by a meditative soundscape. The opus expands with the lyrics, “I don’t wait for the gates to open, I don’t beg to take the throne, build my castle out of open wounds…”
We appreciate the echoed ad-libs, and the assertive, empowering prose that manifests. Ricky shares how he is in control of his own destiny. He is done dimming his light, he is here to shine. This is the story of a self-made artist, and someone who knows their universal worth and birthright.
Ricky conveys how he is free of fear, unshackled from chains and truly the master of his own reality. We love the stripped back middle eight, which allows for further introspection as Ricky sings, “Love is my religion, truth is what I bring…”.
On the message of the song, Ricky tells us, “sovereignty marks the conclusion of a transformative death-and-rebirth cycle that began in June 2025. For a significant period, my narrative was dictated by biological family, religious leadership that conflicted with my truth, and industry voices suggesting I compromise my intensity. This song represents the moment I ceased seeking external validation and recognized my own autonomy.”

Speaking on his influences for the track, Ricky confesses, “The vocal mastery of Tori Kelly and Kehlani serves as the core blueprint for my vocal architecture. Rihanna serves as the primary inspiration for my energy as a main performer, providing the standard for the sovereign attitude and authority found in the lyrics.”
He adds, “My technical foundation is rooted in the theater and choir training I received from Ms. Brenda Amburgy and Mr. Terry Shaw, who taught me the nuances of projection, vocal choice, and the dynamics of blending complex harmonies.”
Needless to say, we are in awe and deeply connect with the empowering, self-realized nature of what Ricky Earlywine is creating. We have added sovereignty to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the conscious rising star.
