We previously featured Annika Bellamy for teaming up with Pat ‘Redbone’ Vegas on a power-pop re-imagining of the iconic Redbone hit, Come and Get Your Love, so when we heard that Annika was back with That’s What I’m Thinking, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in her universe once again and share our experience.
That’s What I’m Thinking opens with a timeless guitar soundscape and captivating horns as Annika sings, “Sometime I get lost in my imagination, take a little vacation, sail away to a sweet place in my mind…”. We appreciate the transportive, escapist energy that manifests with the track and Annika’s sublime timbre as she shares poetic prowess.
We could imagine the track being featured in a film like The People We Meet on Vacation, or a TV show like My Life with the Walter Boys. Speaking on the release, Annika confesses, “The song is really about getting lost in your imagination when you can’t stop thinking about someone.”
The rising star continues, “You can be somewhere completely ordinary, but in your mind you’re walking by the ocean, watching the sunset, kissing in slow motion—basically creating this whole little movie about the two of you. I loved the idea of escaping that everyday grayness and drifting into somewhere more colorful, romantic and full of possibility. That’s What I’m Thinking is really that daydream put into a song.”

In essence, That’s What I’m Thinking encapsulates the beautiful escapism of having a crush at a time when we need it the most. Whilst global tensions are so high, Annika reminds us of human connection and the visually serene nature of our planet. We love the nostalgic quality of the composition, which feels effortlessly timeless too.
We also appreciate how That’s What I’m Thinking continues to demonstrate Annika’s versatility as an artist. From her Spanish-language collaboration on Olvidarte to her connection with the legacy of Redbone and her heartfelt tribute Angels, she continues to explore different sides of her identity and musical heritage whilst keeping her own voice at the centre.
Needless to say, we continue to be captivated by what Annika Bellamy creates, and have added That’s What I’m Thinking to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream her music and eagerly anticipate what this compelling artist creates next.
