Drawing us in with intricate piano and a brooding orchestral string arrangement, ARI4 opens COLORS with intimacy and dimensionality before the composition gradually expands into a sublime indie-pop tapestry with acoustic guitar, textured drums, and astral electric guitar riffs.
We immediately connect with the high emotional quotient that manifests. There is something incredibly human about the way ARI4 transforms vulnerability into something reassuring. She takes us on a journey through trauma bonding, emotional wounds and the complicated relationships.
In essence, COLORS is about recognising that being broken doesn’t mean that we are beyond repair. ARI4 beautifully captures the idea that pain can become part of our story. The message feels particularly poignant and culturally zeitgeist as she sings, “We are all broken, but it’s okay… Just pick your colors, come and play.”
Speaking on the inspiration behind the release, ARI4 confesses, “I wrote COLORS with a close friend during a writing session that quickly turned into us opening up about our deepest wounds.” The rising artist continues, “We ended up talking about trauma bonding: how easy it is to connect with someone over shared pain, and how heavy it can feel.”
The production is super compelling. We love how it builds into an expansive, indie-pop energy, creating a cohesive tapestry of sound. We could imagine it being performed at The Bronze in an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and the track even has a fade out to boot, which is unique for a song made in 2026!
We could easily imagine COLORS landing a sync placement in a coming-of-age film like Lady Bird or The Perks of Being a Wallflower, particularly during a moment where a character is beginning to understand their wounds and realise that healing doesn’t require becoming somebody else. It could also work beautifully in a series like Normal People. There is an evident sense of catharsis and syncopated psychedelia that manifests which reminds us of bands like Hole, Garbage and Alanis Morissette.
We also appreciate the organic story behind the composition. What began as a routine writing assignment at BPM College with Daisy Rogozinski unexpectedly became a deeply personal creative experience, eventually leading ARI4 into an internal process of change. With lyrics by ARI4 and Daisy Rogozinski, melody from ARI4 and BLONDY, and production and arrangement by BLONDY and RESHAKE, the track feels like a genuine collaborative expression of vulnerability, resilience and hope.
Needless to say, we are moved by the emotional honesty and reassuring message that runs through COLORS, and we have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to follow ARI4 as she discovers and paints her own colours through music.
