Our obsession with JK Jerome seems to grow with every listen. We last featured the artist for exploring heartbreak, acceptance, and emotional transition on the cathartic single, Any Moment Now, so when we heard that he just released I Just Want to Soar, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his universe again and share our experience.
I Just Want to Soar opens with a psychedelic and dimensional guitar soundscape tapping into a high emotional quotient with astral cosmic notions. There is no doubt that I Just Want to Soar is a spiritually charged track with deep-rooted authenticity and this is cemented by the lyrics as JK sings, “As you draw, sketch your destiny, between your finger and your thumb, always knew what you’d become, and I swore, to pour my soul into the thing that carries me above the whole, touching heights so I can soar…”
This is followed by celestial siren sounds and rippling guitar riffs that are reminiscent of Ayahuasca integration music. The chord progressions are super emotive and it is clear that JK is writing from a very real place with his own life journey in mind. In essence, I Just Want To Soar explores the evolution of ambition and what it truly means to fulfil one’s purpose.
The song intelligently questions whether success is measured by recognition or achievement. Poetically, Jerome arrives at the conclusion that fulfilment comes through creating for the sake of creation itself. He tells us that the repeated desire to “soar” transforms from a dream of external validation into an inner necessity. This feels like a highly zeitgeist message that is especially important in today’s achievement-driven culture, but also during the current transits of both Jupiter and the South Node in Leo.
We could also imagine I Just Want To Soar being featured in a movie like Marty Supreme or The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and there is no doubt that fans of Ben Howard, Snow Patrol, and Passenger would be able to connect with what JK is sharing. We could also imagine this being performed at Medicine Festival.
It’s easy to understand why JK Jerome has earned support from BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, and previously performed on BBC Radio 2 with Dermot O’Leary. He has also appeared at festivals including BST Hyde Park, Boardmasters, and the Isle of Wight Festival.
