In March, we featured Shi-N0bi for sharing a powerful, anthemic ode to his wife and human connection with his single, Darkness to Light (Thank you for being there), so when we heard that the rising artist was back with Something About You (stylized as: Something about you), we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his universe once again, and share our experience.
Something About You opens with a euphoric and glistening synthscape with astral textures and an optimistic energy as Shi-N0bi paints a vibrant image with the opening lyrics, “Midnight driving with the windows down, radio singing out those bubble gum sounds…”
We immediately connect with the journey that Shi-N0bi is taking us on and the poetic depth that comes to life with the prose. It feels like a movie in its own right, but we could also imagine it being featured in a film like Voicemails for Isabelle, or a TV show like Love Is Blind, or My Life with the Walter Boys, which embody these notions of human connection.
Speaking on the inception of the release, Shi-N0bi confesses, “Something about you is a sonic re-enactment of a vivid memory from my late teens. I had just gotten my driver’s license and was driving through town late at night in my sports car, with my close friend sitting in the passenger seat. I remember those moments so vividly… she was dancing and laughing beside me, with her eyes closed.”
The progressive artist continues, “We were just good friends at the time, but in that moment, I realized I was falling for her and couldn’t stop it. I had a feeling she felt the same spark, too. It turned out she did. We ended up together for two wonderful years before eventually parting ways for ever. That late-night drive, the tension of unsaid feelings, and the pure freedom of young love are what fuelled this song.”
We love the raw authenticity that inspired the track, and how Shi-N0bi consciously brought this to life, cementing this moment in music history forever. He also cites Coldplay, The Script, Alan Walker, LAUV, and Dagny as sonic influences, which we can feel manifest.
On his creative process, he shares, “The instrumentals were manually composed straight from the ground up in Fender Studio Pro, paired with meticulous note-by-note vocal arrangement in Dreamtonics Synthesizer V Studio Pro. Once the original mix was complete, Suno was utilized as an AI enhancement tool to give the final master a polished, radio-ready sheen while preserving the core arrangement and emotion of the raw mix.”
We learn that Shi-N0bi has also released a parallel Raw Studio Mix of the song on streaming platforms so that listeners can hear the track’s earlier production stage. This is an innovative and highly transparent creative gesture from the artist.
