Establishing the mood with padded drums and atmospheric vocals, THROES NYC open the Clean Minimum Risk Remix of Fight The Urge with the lyrics, “I get so close to a need, I can almost feel it breathe, why would I ever concede, I’ve got nothing to lose…”
We immediately connect with the cerebral energy and metaphorical depth that manifests. The opus expands with emotive piano chords and textured percussion as Throes NYC share the mantra, “But I can’t fight the urge, now I can’t fight the urge…”. There is an undeniable cinematic allure attached to the Clean Minimum Risk Remix of Fight The Urge, and the transition into a super dimensional and immersive soundscape with psychedelic and industrial elements is absolutely ingenious.
The Clean Minimum Risk Remix of Fight The Urge would be perfect for a sync placement in a conscious sci-fi movie like Lucy or Limitless, or a TV show like Buffy The Vampire Slayer – we could even imagine the song being performed at The Bronze.
THROES NYC have delivered a brilliantly produced and cohesive tapestry of sound which is dynamic and hypnotic at the same time. Fans of 90s trip-hop bands like Morcheeba, Portishead and Zero 7 would absolutely be able to connect with the track and we appreciate the astral synth lines that emerge and the spacey motifs which add a transcendental value to the composition.

In essence, the song is about the internal battle between ego and conscience. The narrative captures the moments when we are tempted to keep pushing forward, chase a win, revenge, or to seek personal gratification, even though a deeper voice is warning us to stop.
We learn that THROES NYC is the musical project of Queens, New York natives Michael Bozzo and Courtney Leo. Bozzo is a multi-instrumentalist and producer, whilst Leo provides the vocals. The two have been making music together since childhood. The duo shares how their sonic identity was heavily shaped by growing up around legendary New York venues such as CBGB’s, Roseland Ballroom, and Irving Plaza during the ’90s and early 2000s.
Needless to say, we are in awe of the Clean Minimum Risk Remix of Fight The Urge and have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the accompanying versions of the song, and THROES NYC‘s wider discography, including Blues, and BRIDGE.
