Speaking on the release, the creative pair confess, “For Spoken Thoughts, we were inspired by artists who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable without sacrificing lyrical ability. J. Cole has always been a major influence because of his storytelling, honesty, and ability to turn personal experiences into songs that resonate with people. We also draw inspiration from artists like Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean, who balance introspection with technical lyricism and meaningful messages. At the same time, we aren’t confined to one lane.”
This certainly explains the nod to J. Cole in the chorus! Hobo JoJo and Knottie add, ‘The song explores self-reflection, growth, doubt, faith, and the constant battle between who we are today and who we’re trying to become. Instead of chasing a trend, we wanted to create something timeless that encourages listeners to slow down and sit with their own emotions.”
