By now you will know that we have been intently covering Hollow Shift‘s releases, so naturally, when we heard they were back with a three-track EP called WAR, featuring Hephaestus, Nothing Dies Quietly, and Frequencies Will Stumble, we were curious to say the least.
The Athens-based darkwave duo have always existed in a liminal space between shadow and light. Following their philosophical and cinematic Reload EP, which we previously explored on KIMU, Jessica Bell and Alexander Zamparas continue their fascination with inner conflict, existential reflection and human survival.
Let’s go back to the previous two singles. It all kicks off with Hades, and there is no denying that there is something beautifully tragic about a Greek duo opening this latest chapter with the Ancient Greek god of death and ruler of the underworld. The track really embodies this. Hollow Shift use this symbolism as a portal into their own sonic underworld. The song is about being haunted by grief, loss, and a dark past that lingers like a ghost inside the mind.
The journey continues with Without Darkness Souls Won’t Move, which is about a mysterious, godlike force of nature where destruction and beauty coexist. It suggests that darkness, death, and chaos are necessary parts of transformation and rebirth.
This brings us to WAR, which opens with Hephaestus – a highly zeitgeist track about humanity’s self-destruction and guilt. It uses themes of fire, pollution, and mythological imagery to portray a world collapsing under its own mistakes and the struggle to find escape. This has never felt so real, and as always with Hollow Shift, the production is beyond words.
Across Hephaestus, Nothing Dies Quietly, and Frequencies Will Stumble, the EP explores pain, conflict, and the struggle to keep going through difficult times. With the band’s signature dark melodies, rich soundscapes, and an emotional atmosphere, WAR feels like a super important and cinematic release that will be remembered for eons to come as a depiction of the present and how artists are truly using their voices to shine a light on expanded consciousness and peace.

Nothing Dies Quietly depicts a bleak cry of despair and existential confusion, portraying a world where power, faith, identity, and meaning have collapsed into emptiness and control, whilst Frequencies Will Stumble is a nihilistic reflection on humanity’s endless cycle of blame, hypocrisy, and self-destruction, where everyone sees themselves as righteous while society collapses under its own corruption. To quote the band, “Where is God… and who are we indeed? No one is in the right…”
We vibe with the thought-provoking energy and the consistent, conscious depth that Hollow Shift create with. Hephaestus has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the band, and anticipate future releases.
