Ymiir channels survival, liberation and electronica empowerment on new single, Sintar Untz

Drawing us in with a hummed series of ad-libs, textured percussion and a dimensional trance-meets-funk-Americana soundscape, Ymiir opens Sintar Untz with dimensionality and a visceral, situational message.

We experience the lyrics, “In your dream I’m hitting the ground, you shove me hard you want me down, your twisted rage, your sinking teeth, I’m gone at dawn no trace beneath…”. These cut deep, but Ymiir is one step ahead as the energy changes from vulnerability to empowering assertion.

The message is clear, Ymiir is the master of their own destiny. The sonic ebbs and flows are sublime, and there is no doubt that the track holds a cinematic allure, perfect for a range of sync placements – perhaps a sports commercial or a TV show like Unbelievable, or Killing Eve.

Sintar Untz is built around a story of struggle, survival and self-belief. The track is framed as a journey through hardship, towards personal liberation. In a way, it feels highly reflective of the zeitgeist and what many of us are experiencing today. The words and tone describe pushing through toxic forces (society and a sunken place), and refusing to be overcome.

We learn that Magnus Nilsson and Mattias Larsson are the creative force behind the electronic music project, Ymiir. Working from a home studio on the island of Gotland, Sweden, the duo have combined cinematic electronica with an aggressive, high-impact sound design.

Nilsson drives the track’s heavy sonic foundation with driving synths, sharp basslines, and a dark, kinetic atmosphere, whilst Larsson shapes its lyrical identity and the empowering narrative.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Sintar Untz to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Ymiir, including Summer Untz, and Feel.
