We recently featured The Lazz for fusing metal power with futuristic philosophy on the zeitgeist and innovative single, Observer, so when we heard that the visionary artist was back with The Resonance, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
The Resonance opens with a high-octane guitar performance and thrashing motifs, expanding with intricate drum work and the progressive metal sound that feels signature to The Lazz. The lyrics are metaphorical with breathy vocals that paint a visual universe with a fantastical edge.
We connect with how poetic and conceptual it is. In essence, the story explores a protagonist with a thousand lives behind her. This is very spiritually profound and reminds us that we are not only a collective, but that our ancestral heritage as humans on planet Earth truly does shape us through “memory, lineage and unseen strength”. The artist behind the project, Ben Lazzaro says it is about “the idea that every struggle, lesson, and life experience echoes through us when we rise to face the next challenge.”
The sound itself is stadium-ready, and the narrative is awe-inspiring. We could imagine this as the score of a Final Fantasy movie. Ben adds “It’s the opening scene of a deeper world being built by an independent artist with a clear identity, cinematic vision, and long-term creative story.”
The Resonance comes with a music video which serves as the “sixth stage of the Synchronicity Cycle, an audiovisual journey into the depths of the collective unconscious.” The video is about Maya (the Sanskrit word for illusion, very fitting) who is moving through an ancient bamboo forest, navigating “the blurring lines between her individual persona and a lineage of ancestral warriors.”
The Lazz has also just released another part of the series, Riddle In the Mist, which also comes with a music video – the sequel to The Resonance. In this song and film, Maya wanders a surreal, causality-broken world, struggling to assert free will as fate, identity, and cause-and-effect unravel around her.
We love the universe that The Lazz is creating, and have added both songs to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to explore his growing sonic and cinematic universe.
