Drawing us in with an emotive piano performance and immersive synth-strings, Project Rod Williams opens So Over You (Altered Impact Mix) with a high emotional quotient and the lyrics, “Used to think we were the best thing, used to think we were in love, I would give you everything you desired, give you all your needs, all of your wants…”
The opus expands with sublime chord transitions and textured drums with the situational prose, “Did you return the favour, did you return my love? No you had pleasure with strangers… you broke my heart, you broke my trust… now I am so over you, searching for somebody new…”
The narrative of the track is timeless, and to an extent, so is the soundscape, tapping into the best of the 80s with some 90s motifs and a progressive mix, in part due to the technology used to generate the track.
Speaking on the message of the track, Rod confesses, “The lyrical inspiration for this release didn’t come from another artist, but rather from a very raw, personal chapter of my life. I wrote the track after going through several painful experiences of giving someone absolutely every ounce of love I had, only to be cheated on or left to be alone.” Rod continues, “The lyrics capture that definitive breaking point – the exact moment you finally decide to just let go, reclaim your peace, and be completely ‘so over’ the person who hurt you.”
The guitar solo is simply out of this world, and has us on the edge of our seats. The track is masterfully written, and you can tell that it comes from a place of raw authenticity, and luckily in today’s time, we are able to translate that into reality with intelligent software.
Rod also cites Depeche Mode as his primary influence for the original version of the song (performed by Tim Condor), but this version certainly has a cinematic sonic identity of its own. We could imagine So Over You (Altered Impact Mix) manifesting a number of synch placements, notably a film like The Descendants, Fatal Attraction or Unfaithful.
Needless to say, we are in awe of the re-imagined version of the track, and have added So Over You (Altered Impact Mix) to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to explore Project Rod Williams‘ wider discography, including the entirety of Altered Impact.
