Establishing the mood with a dynamic synthscape featuring minor key descending arpeggios intertwined with a pulsating rhythmic melody and crashing rock guitars, Waves Of The Echo opens Words with poetic prowess and metaphorical prose.
We are immediately enthralled by the instrumental mastery and the drama the composition exudes. We appreciate the introspective and conceptual lyricism which taps into existing notions about chasing the thrill. It also zooms into the hook “words don’t disappear” which feels poignant and also quite zeitgeist. Yes, it can be interpreted on a personal level, but also on a wider societal level, as what we say and how we treat each other truly does create impact on a global level.
The band confesses, “The lyrics are about the words we accidentally say to one another in the heat of the moment. All the beautiful words stay in our minds until they gradually fade into warm memories. The worst, most hurtful words, however, we remember with vivid detail for the rest of our lives. People age, words don’t.”
There are haunting motifs that manifest both sonically and through Waves Of The Echo‘s prose. The middle eight is a stripped back rhythmic synth moment that invites introspection, rebuilding with astral guitar frequencies and eventually evolving into the main body of the song for an epic finale.

Fans of Muse, Placebo, and The Killers would be able to vibe with what Waves Of The Echo are creating. We love the literal echoing harmonies in the finale, and can imagine Words being featured in a sequel to Drive, or perhaps an episode of Euphoria on HBO.
We learn that Words was recorded and produced by Valtteri Väänänen at Lammaskallion Audio, and the Helsinki-based indie rock band has ended a ten-year silence with Words, since their 2015 debut FADING DAYLIGHT, BRIGHT NIGHTS!
Waves Of The Echo‘s return to the stage has already begun with a soft launch in Helsinki, and will expand into a spring tour across Finland and the Baltics, including stops in Riga, Tallinn, Rakvere, Tampere, and multiple Helsinki venues!
Needless to say, we are obsessed, and have added Words to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Waves Of The Echo, including the entirety of FADING DAYLIGHT, BRIGHT NIGHTS.
