In late 2025, we explored Cipher Chronicles: The Network Archives – the mind-bending, neuroplasticity-enhancing album by Grim Logick, iLLLogick and 3NIGMABREDMUSIC – so when we heard that Grim Logick was back with a new solo single, The Maelstrom, we couldn’t wait to re-immerse ourselves in the visionary artist’s universe once again.
The Maelstrom opens with piano chords, crashes of thunder and a spoken word introduction that reminds us of Missy Elliott‘s Da Real World. Grim Logick shares a message of gratitude as he says, “Yo, it’s Grim Logick, it’s been a wild journey, but I appreciate all of y’all out there who’ve shown your support through the whole ride, let’s go…”
The production and the emotion in Grim’s voice sends chills down our spine. In essence, Grim Logick conveys the intense pressures and mental weight of personal growth, creative ambition, and the struggles of life leaving us overwhelmed.
He reflects on his internal battles, self-doubt and anxiety. Of course, emotional stability, human responsibilities, fame and personal relationships also come into play. The prose is extremely poetic, lines like “I’ve got so much on my plate, I don’t think you could swallow half…” and “spinning full circle, how I’m supposed to find the best route?” truly convey the real and tangible tension between ambition and the mental toll it takes on us.
Grim is not afraid to get personal. He also addresses his role as a father, and mentor – particularly to his brother, Matthew. Grim expresses regret for past mistakes, and the second verse feels almost like a letter of guidance and love. Overall, the track is super personal and no doubt served as a cathartic release for Grim Logick. Fans of early Eminem will definitely be able to vibe with this.

We really connect with the melodic energy of the track and the rawness that manifests with what Grim shares. His high octane flow is simply out of this world, he is a master of his art form, and this level of skill can only be conjured up from his soul in the realest and most authentic place. Grim says, “What you hear is the sound of lived experience – addiction, mental illness, fatherhood, and brotherhood – encoded into waveform by the man who survived it.”
We learn that the production of The Maelstrom was primarily handled by Benny Struggle (Benjamin Brice), a multi-instrumentalist and digital producer from Louisiana, with co-production from Hollow Logick (River Nobles). Whilst Benny composed the initial cinematic, storm-infused beat, Hollow Logick completed the arrangement, and Grim Logick performed all writing, recording, vocal performance, mixing, and mastering. We could imagine The Maelstrom locking in a sync deal for a movie like Requiem for a Dream, Joker, 8 Mile, Black Swan, or The Fighter.
As always, we are in awe, and have added The Maelstrom to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Grim Logick, and anticipate future releases!
