We previously featured Eye of TJ when he tapped into a high emotional quotient with his introspective and creatively progressive single, Tonight, I Miss You, so naturally, when we found out that the talented artist was back with the Acoustic Version of Letting Go of You, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Enticing us with a stripped-back and timeless acoustic guitar soundscape with a luscious orchestral strings arrangement, Eye of TJ opens Letting Go of You with the vulnerable lyrics, “I didn’t wanna give up on you, but I had no other choice but to… You kept backing me in a corner, without giving me any room, this has been one of the hardest things that I’ve had to do…”
This rendition of the song reminds us of the iconic 3 Doors Down song Here Without You – due in part to Eye of TJ‘s timbre and the resonance that he performs with. The track feels raw and authentic, not that the original version wasn’t, but with any acoustic version of a song, the soulfulness of the artist truly shines through.
In essence, Letting Go of You is about walking away from a relationship that has become painful and one-sided. Eye of TJ did not want to give up, but felt forced to. He felt trapped, unheard and emotionally drained. He keeps hoping things would change, but the love has faded and notions of silence have replaced connection. In the end, he realizes he cannot keep holding on.
On a more cathartic note, the song is also about reclaiming strength and self worth. Eye of TJ carried the other person’s weight for too long and kept losing the same battles. After being hurt again and again, he eventually chooses to protect himself. Letting go becomes an act of survival and empowerment.

Whilst the original version of the track had a heavy, stadium-rock vibe, this taps into a softer but equally assertive energy. The star’s falsetto is literally sublime and sends as astral. It is a poignant and relatable track that documents the end of a nine-year relationship.
“I wrote this song when my world fell apart, I am taking it back to how it sounded the night I wrote it. No loudness. Just the truth. It is for anyone spending Valentine’s week letting go instead of holding on”, says TJ.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and appreciate the aligned release date. We have added the Acoustic Version of Letting Go of You to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Eye of TJ, including the original version.
