Establishing the mood with an ethereal piano performance and subtle bird sounds, Lostbird opens Drift with a high emotional quotient and a cinematic allure. The composition shifts tempo and energy into a fluid and optimistic frequency. We appreciate the detail led performance, and the juxtaposition of the rhythmic bass notes with the astral melodic riffs.
There is no doubt that Drift would be perfect for a plethora of sync placements, perhaps the score for a coming-of-age movie or TV show that has an emotive core, such as the live action version of Moana, or perhaps The Drama starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson.
The build of the track is sublime and the intricacy of the instrumentation really stands out. The crescendo of the bird sounds adds dimensionality to the piece for its climax before an emotional and refined break down and conclusion.

Lostbird‘s authenticity really shines through in her performance, and we feel the flow of her fingers on the keys and her heart’s resonance within the construct of the composition. Speaking on the release, Lostbird confesses, “Drift was inspired by childhood memories of safety and ease, evenings spent in parks, the smell of grass, fading daylight and a time when the world felt smaller and gentler.”
We learn that Drift is designed to invite pause and reflection through one’s own memories, whilst also introducing the Leeds-based composer who pairs her music with hand drawn artworks inspired by birds, landscapes and botanical symbolism.
Each release is treated as a small world that blends sound, imagery and meaning, with atmosphere valued over perfection. Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Drift to our New Music Spotlight and TIMELESS playlists, whilst we anticipate future releases from Lostbird!
