Establishing the mood with an emotive and introspective vocal performance, LESS opens Instead of Making Love (Say Hello) with the words, “Couldn’t say the word, I’ve lost the rhythm, no way to get you back…”
Accompanied by a dimensional guitar and textured drums, the song showcases instrumental and poetic prowess, intertwined to bring to life a thoughtful and relatable message from LESS, as she shares her soul, lived experience, anxieties and emotional resonance.
We appreciate the ebbs and flows of the track, the instrumental segments and the 80s, timeless adjacency. With Instead of Making Love (Say Hello), the rising Italian artist fuses her high emotional quotient with subtle irony. In essence, the song is about embracing growth and emotional renewal. It is rooted in the concept of choosing an honest connection and self-awareness over clinging to what might be fading.
We learn that Instead of Making Love (Say Hello) was recorded entirely on analog equipment at Kapow Vintage Studio in Florence, and is designed to capture the essence of LESS coming-of-age as both a woman and musician. It serves as the final recording before her upcoming album LOVELESS, and it represents a confident leap into a new chapter of her artistry.

Born in Naples in 2001 and raised in a working-class family, LESS’s story is one of resilience and reinvention. Constantly on the move during her childhood, she found stability through music, teaching herself guitar and songwriting at the age of twelve.
The collaboration with producers Lorenzo Santi and Federico Maremmi, alongside engineer Marco Lega, gives the song its vintage and cinematic polish. Naturally, we are in awe of the release, and have added Instead of Making Love (Say Hello) to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream LESS‘s growing discography, and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
