Fat Cat Affair returns with the support of Costie Payne, Janet Tabaka and a Nigerian gospel choir on new single, Empty Bed

We previously featured Fat Cat Affair for the emotive and charming single, Up At Dawn, and their ode to a lost friend, I Wonder, so when we heard that the talented feline had returned with Empty Bed, we were curious to say the least!

Enticing us with intricate percussion and a luscious, melodic tapestry of sound, Fat Cat opens Empty Bed with the support of his long time collaborator Costie Payne singing the situational prose, “Empty bed has an empty space in my heart, I’m feeling blue cos I never learnt to play this game smart…”

The composition showcases nothing short of instrumental mastery and raw, authentic emotion delivered by Costie, as well as Janet Tabaka who shares her soul with poetic prowess and intentional depth on the opus.

Speaking on the inception of the release, Fat Cat confesses, “I was living in a flat in London where the walls were so thin I could hear everything that happened next door. They would argue all night whilst I was playing guitar. The more they argued, the more I played. We were almost like a band except they didn’t know it. Sadly, they eventually broke up but it did inspire me to write this song.”

It is the iconic finale featuring a Nigerian gospel choir that truly captivates us, taking the song to a whole new level and proving how visionary our feline friend truly is!

We love the narrative that Fat Cat Affair has to share, and the thought that goes into each one of his releases. The soundscape on Empty Bed is refined and the concept is super relatable. You can even read a conceptual perspective back story of the narrative via Fat Cat’s robust and detailed website!

Needless to say, we have added Empty Bed to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Fat Cat Affair‘s previous four singles, and anticipate future releases from Fat Cat!
