Fat Cat Affair and Costie Payne share an ode to a lost friend with new single, I Wonder

Last year, we had the honour of featuring Fat Cat Affair for his emotive and charming single, Up At Dawn, so when we heard that the visionary feline had teamed up with Costie Payne on the brand new, I Wonder, we couldn’t wait to experience it!

Drawing us in with a dimensional blues-funk hybrid bassline, Fat Cat Affair opens I Wonder with situational, yet metaphorical prose sung by Costie Payne, “I’m sitting here on my chair, listening to the silence…”

We immediately appreciate the perspective that is being shared once again by Fat Cat‘s lyrics, and with reference to I Wonder, the star confesses that it is one of his “most poignant songs to date…”

Fat Cat continues with depth, “I wrote this with a fellow band member as a tribute to a beautiful singer we used to work with. The track is a memorial of sorts, a homage to love lost and opportunities missed.”

We appreciate the smooth and soulful nature of the track with gosel undertones, and we learn that the vocals were recorded in Japan by Costie Payne, whilst the main track was recorded in Riga and even features an appearance from younger members of the Riga Cathedral Choir School.

The expansive and introspective nature of the lyricism fused with the euphoric soundscape, allows us to deeply connect with the imagination of the creator.

An international cat of mystery, Fat Cat has spent years touring Europe, moving from city to city. He has lived and worked in the smoky jazz bars of Paris, the sweaty rock clubs of Hamburg, underground blues joints in Warsaw and been part of the new cool in Camden, London.

We love the universe that Fat Cat Affair creates, drenched with authenticity and charisma, and we have added I Wonder to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Fat Cat Affair’s wider discography including Up at Dawn, Be The One, and Eyes Full of Tears.
