We previously featured Grace & Moji as they explored their connection with their emotive debut, Our Love, so when we heard that they had returned with a track titled, Monster, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to feed back on our thoughts!

Drawing us in with a charming false start, an intricate guitar soundscape and an astral frequency, Grace & Moji open Monster with introspective and self-realized lyricism as Grace sings, “I’m a monster, I get triggered like a match, I explode, and I burn out, but my sanity comes right back… All those meditations, self-explorations, haven’t healed away the wounds, all the trips to Bali, stayed in so many temples, but the shadow dominates my moods…”

We immediately connect with the cerebral electronica nuance in the soundscape, and how the pair bring to life a very relatable and vulnerable theme.

Speaking on the release, Grace & Moji confess, “Monster serves as an anthem for anyone who has experienced the coexistence of light and darkness within their personality. Despite all the personal growth and healing endeavors, there is a persistent shadow that occasionally emerges.”

The importance of shadow work is not lost on us, and taking accountability for one’s dark-side is the first step in healing and moving forward, and that is just what Monster has to offer.

Grace tells us, “Monster was inspired by a moment in our relationship when my dark side came out. The next day, we worked through it and wrote this song about the shadow sides of ourselves.”

Meanwhile, Moji, also known as Martin, adds, “Monster is a bit of a curve ball from our first release. It shows a different side to us and might give an indication as to where this project is headed. It’s a fun uptempo song about acknowledging the monster within, because it will come out from time to time, no matter how hard we try to suppress it.

We love the conscious message that Grace & Moji convey, and the directional and intentional nature of their artistry. We have added Monster to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their debut single, Our Love, and anticipate future releases from the talented and visionary duo!
