Cormac delivers stunning reinterpretation of Somewhere from West Side Story

We recently featured Cormac for his emotionally profound cover of Sia’s iconic and empowering single, Titanium, so when we heard that the rising star had also released a reinterpretation of Somewhere from West Side Story, we couldn’t wait to listen and feed back!

The opus opens with a luscious, astral vocal as Cormac sings, “There’s a place for us, somewhere, a place for us, peace and quiet and open air, wait for us, somewhere…”

We are immediately drawn in by the pristine performance from Cormac, and the presence of Dominic Ferris on the piano, who delivers instrumental mastery and emotion to match the prose.

Speaking on the release, Cormac confesses, “I’ve tried to re-purpose this song to apply more generally and ambiguously to anyone searching for a place in time. It is a little autobiographical but I think many people can relate to the lyrics.”

The rising star continues, “I don’t think it is has been sung by a boy before as it is a famous Soprano song, but I think I managed to get away with it and at the end of the day it is just such a beautiful, simple but powerful ballad.”

Elaborating on his intention with his artistry, Cormac says, “I try to sing songs in the style of a ‘musical hug’.” We absolutely love this concept, and feel the hugs coming through with his releases!

We have added Cormac‘s incredible cover of Somewhere to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography and anticipate future covers and originals from the rising star who has already performed at The Royal Albert Hall, the London Palladium, Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall and more!
