Listen to Blueburst’s intentional cover of The Clash’s iconic Train in Vain

You might be surprised to hear that Train in Vain is the most covered song from The Clash, with versions by Third Eye Blind, Ill Rapture, Dr. Haze/DJ X-Cel, The Sabrejets, Dwight Yoakam, Annie Lennox, The Manic Street Preachers, Jones Crusher, Kirsty MacColl, and now, Blueburst!

Today the star also released his third original single, Amplify Me (read the review here), which aligns with the sentiment of Train in Vain. Blueburst‘s cover opens with a vivid electric guitar and an emotive delivery of the iconic prose from the well-known track.

The direction of the cover is more minimalist, taking The Clash’s frantic punk anthem, and turning it into “a somber affair of heartbreak and angst”, inspired by Miller’s insight that the lyrics, which are seemingly about a breakup, could actually be something else entirely.

The star tells us, “In the midst of the George Floyd tragedy, and everything else that happened that summer, it occurred to me upon hearing it that it could sung from the point of view of a disillusioned American singing to their country.”

He continues with a personal touch with reference to today’s accompanying release of Amplify Me, “In that way the two songs are tied together to me, in that they’re both inspired by a sense of outrage and despair stemming from feeling powerless. So we’re releasing them together.”

We deeply appreciate the wisdom and intention that Blueburst puts into his art, and have added Train in Vain and Amplify Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Blueburst‘s debut and sophomore singles, and anticipate future releases from the talented recording artist.
