It has been a highly creative year for mUmbo with the cinematic and vulnerable, Swing My Hip and their exploration of the human condition with the immersive, Don’t Even Mind The Rain, so when we heard that they had just released the brand new, Rollin’ Over, we couldn’t wait to experience it!
Drawing us in with a luscious and glistening guitar soundscape, mUmbo open Rollin’ Over with atmospheric vocals as Emma Semple sings the situational lyrics, “I’m standing in the pale blue light, early morning from the night…”
The composition expands into a soft rock meets indie pop energy, as the duo take us on a transcendental journey laced with poetic prowess and depth. We learn that Doug MacGowan, Emma Semple and Antonio Dale are joined by Martin Goodchild who performs organ on Rollin’ Over.
mUmbo tell us that Rollin’ Over is about “cautious optimism.” They add with profound depth, “No matter what, each day gives you a chance to reset, to make a fresh start; in yourself, at least. Life’s always rollin’ over…”
The band cite Mazzy Star, Goldfrapp, Little Feat, Ry Cooder, and Johnny Marr as some of their influences, but it is clear that what they are creating is unique in its own right. We deeply appreciate the immersive nature of the song and the authenticity that Emma shares as she sings her prose, fused cohesively with a cohesive tapestry of sound.
mUmbo recommend that the song is perfect for “the car, [head or ear] phones or singing out loud in the kitchen”, they confess it is “the perfect tonic to the nights drawing in.” We have added Rollin’ Over to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream mUmbo‘s wider discography including Don’t Even Mind The Rain.
