mUmbo explore the human condition on immersive new single, Don’t Even Mind The Rain

We recently featured mUmbo for their cinematic and vulnerable single, Swing My Hip, so we were thrilled to learn of the release of the brand new, Don’t Even Mind The Rain.

Establishing the mood with a glistening alternative rock meets country soundscape, fused with epic and emotive strings, mUmbo open Don’t Even Mind The Rain with their signature atmospheric vocals and lyrical intrigue.

We learn that the opus is in collaboration with with Italian-based virtuoso drummer Antonio Dalé, and marks the band’s third single of the year. We love the immersive nature of the song, and could imagine it fitting perfectly into the Buffy The Vampire Slayer soundtrack.

mUmbo tell us that Don’t Even Mind The Rain explores “the themes of hope, love, regret, a quiet optimism and a bright sadness”. They confess that it is “a very personal song with a universal affinity.” We appreciate their perspective on the human condition, and the hook, which paints a picture in line with the listening experience on Spotify, with a still from their canvas loop as the header of this article.

mUmbo, aka Doug MacGowan and Emma Semple, confess when speaking on the audio tapestry of the piece, “Sonically, the song has a slight country-tinged flavour to it, something we haven’t utilised much in our music before. The use of real drums rather than beats in this single lends the song a much greater organic, live feel to the recording.”

The duo’s influences encompass a diverse range, incorporating shoegaze, beats, folk, blues, rock and ambient. Similar artists include Stars of the Lid, Widowspeak, Mazzy Star, Kelly Joe Phelps, Goldfrapp, Little Feat and Ry Cooder, although mUmbo are certainly developing a soundscape of their own.

We love the energy that mUmbo share with their artistry, and have added Don’t Even Mind The Rain to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream their wider discography including Swing My Hip and Right Here On The Ground.
