Pini Gurfil finds hope and transformation on new single, Reborn

Setting the tone with a sensual and intriguing vocal tone fused with exquisite hybrid-jazz, Pini Gurfil opens his new single Reborn with the lyrics, “Babe, if you ever cross my mind, then I promise that I’ll need you, feed you, and forget you again all over the place.”

Other lyrical highlights from the song, which has themes of love, loss, rebirth and the inevitability of change, include the reminiscent, “when we were young, our love was an avalanche”, the poetic “it was destined to be broken It’s a scripture rule, you see” and the hook “I am, Good Lord – Reborn.”

Pini Gurfil is a space engineering professor at the Israeli Institute of Technology, he has been writing and composing in parallel to his academic career. We love the dimensionality and cinematography of the accompanying music video directed by René Fridja.

Speaking on his creative process, Pini says “I have been writing and composing for the past few years. I began writing music after an emotional trauma a few years ago. My recent singles reflect mainly upon my emotional spectrum, adopting an existentialist yet intimate and subtle standpoint. I believe that my lyrics are quite intricate, often containing delicate subtexts.”

Reborn is my second solo single. It’s all about hope and transformation; it’s a post-divorce song. My debut single, Fade Away dealt with a man facing the silence of the world.”

We have added Reborn to our New Music Spotlight playlist and have been immersing ourselves in the wider work of Pini Gurfil which includes his single from last year, Fade Away and his album שחור על אור, which translate to Black On Light.
