Supermarket vegan-faves Gosh! have unveiled a study that reveals that Brits would rather ditch booze for January than give up meat and dairy (70 per cent vs. 30 per cent). Obviously, in a conscious protopian dimension of peace, neither carnism or alcoholism would exist – two violences that society could really do without!
The research also revealed that Brits are more likely to run a marathon (5 per cent), participate in Dry January (9 per cent) or join the gym (11 per cent) than take part in Veganuary (4 per cent). Disappointing? Maybe, but expected considering the history of spiritual abuse that the nation has endured since the beginning of time.
The 30-day vegan challenge — dubbed ‘Veganuary’ — asks participants to only eat plant-based foods. We reported at the start of the year that Veganuary searched have risen by 3000%, which is a really inspiring statistic, so don’t be too disappointed by the results of Gosh!’s research.
Having to unlearn systemic oppression to expand consciousness is part of the process – and we have to be patient, but a vegan world is coming!
Although nearly 1 in 5 Brits (17 per cent) are set to participate in Veganuary 2022, the main apprehensions raised amongst participants are two-fold: price (fiction!) and difficulty (brainwashing!).
Yet, almost half (45 per cent) of those who participated in Veganuary last year actually kept up the plant-based diet, with around a quarter (25 per cent) claiming it was easier than expected.
With research proving vegan meals cost approximately 40 per cent less than meat or fish-based meals, it’s definitely not just ease that converts carnivores; a real perk for those cash-strapped wallets post-Christmas!
26 per cent of survey respondents claim the environment would be their top motivation for participating in Veganuary, closely followed by health (25 per cent) and trying new foods (21 per cent). Now let’s get LOVE ENERGY to the top of that list!
A spokesperson at Gosh! says, “Veganuary is the perfect time to discover and experiment — and it’s great to see around a fifth of us feel the same! Veganuary is often associated with what you have to give up, but there’s so much that you gain as well. Whether you’re challenging yourself to learn new recipes, try new foods, or just generally eat a bit healthier, it’s a great way to start the year off”.
The number of vegans in the UK is estimated to be around 600,000 and rising. Veganism continues to be a hot topic, with Google searches for ‘vegan recipes’ and ‘vegan meals’ reaching an all-time high during the pandemic. What’s more, increasing numbers of celebs are announcing their turn to veganism — including the likes of A-listers Billie Eilish, Lizzo and Kim Kardashian — showing the diet is slowly losing its taboo and becoming a lifestyle trend.
Those adopting a plant-based diet can also expect a whole host of health benefits. Last year, half of people surveyed saw some improvement to their health, with half reporting increased energy and mood (49 per cent and 46 per cent respectively), and a further 38 per cent claiming they felt their skin looked and felt better.
