We previously featured Bash Co. for intertwining love, Prague’s history and the warmth of human connection with the atmospheric alt-country single, Velvet, so when we found out that the visionary artist was back with Dungeon, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Dungeon opens with a meditative frequency and strummed acoustic guitar featuring ethereal electric textures as we experience the lyrics, “I think of what not, I don’t but I’m not, I was but what if, I did and forgot… Silence, silence, silence, deafens all of my agony, caged in a dungeon of you…”
We immediately connect with the raw emotional resonance of the song, and the highly visual yet metaphorical concept that comes to life. The prose is pretty surreal in terms of the writing style – it’s unique, and brings to life the message of the song really poignantly.
It is worth noting that there is a connection between Dungeon and Velvet. The two songs serve as opposite sides of the same emotional experience. Where Velvet is about liberation, Dungeon explores the feeling of being imprisoned. It’s very cohesive work from the artist, and we appreciate the depth here.
Fans of Elliott Smith (in a futuristic dimension), Sparklehorse, Bon Iver, Damien Rice and Mark Lanegan may connect with the intimate, melancholic textures and literary approach to songwriting.

For sync, we can imagine Dungeon being featured in films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, A Ghost Story, Blue Valentine, The Lobster and The Green Knight. On television, it could sit well within a show like The OA, Severance, Normal People, The Leftovers or Dark.
Hailing from V.N. Gaia, Portugal, Bash Co. has been writing songs since 1999. He works independently from his home studio, playing all the guitars while programming and mixing the drums himself in Ableton. He has no particular interest in stardom. He simply wants the music he has spent years creating to reach people. His connection to Kafka’s thought, “We’re all cages in search of a bird,” says a lot about that creative purpose.
Needless to say, we are obsessed with Dungeon, and have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Velvet and Bash Co.‘s wider discography.
