The casting of Britney Spears in the long-awaited film adaptation of The Woman in Me remains officially undecided, but one name has begun to inspire a surprisingly passionate corner of the internet: McKenna Grace. The actress, best known for Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Handmaid’s Tale and Gifted, has increasingly become a fan favourite for the role, with supporters arguing that she has the face, acting ability and musical talent to make a convincing young Britney.
The physical resemblance is one of the first things fans notice. On Reddit, one fan described Grace’s face as “pretty damn close to Britney,” specifically pointing to “the proportions of her eyes and her profile.” Another said Grace has Britney’s “downturned eyes,” while others have noted the softness of her features. It is not an exact likeness, but that may actually be part of the appeal. With the right hair, makeup and styling, fans can imagine Grace moving convincingly through Britney’s late-1990s and early-2000s eras.
There is also one particularly striking piece of visual evidence for the fan casting: Grace has dressed up as Britney in the iconic schoolgirl look from the “…Baby One More Time” video. The image immediately taps into one of Britney’s most recognisable eras, from the tied-up white shirt and pleated skirt to the pigtails and youthful styling. For fans imagining Grace as Britney, it is almost a ready-made glimpse of what the actress could look like on screen. Rather than simply sharing a passing resemblance, Grace can already be visually transformed into the pop star that millions of people remember from the late 1990s. It is the kind of image that makes the casting suggestion feel less like an abstract internet fantasy and more like a role that could genuinely work.

Then there is the acting. Grace has spent much of her career playing emotionally complicated characters, often having to communicate vulnerability, fear or intensity without relying on huge performances. That matters for a Britney story, which would need to portray considerably more than the pop star’s public image. The challenge would be capturing the difference between Britney the performer and Britney the person.
Grace also has something many potential contenders would need to develop: genuine musical experience. She is an established singer-songwriter who has released her own music and plays several instruments. “I love singing and creating,” she has said, describing music as something that has always been part of her life.
Perhaps most intriguingly, Grace already has a personal connection to Britney’s music. She has revealed that Britney’s Greatest Hits was essentially the soundtrack to her childhood car journeys to Los Angeles, saying she listened to it repeatedly for five years. When asked about playing Britney in a biopic, Grace said Britney was ‘the first thing that came to mind.’
And then there is Grace herself: the expressive face, the quick emotional reactions and the infectious, slightly awkward laugh that can instantly make her seem younger and more relatable. Fans have already seen how naturally she can communicate a whole range of emotions through tiny facial changes.
One Reddit fan summed up the enthusiasm simply: “I’d be so happy to see her play Britney.” Another called her “a great actress” who could “totally” play Britney’s younger years.
For now, it remains fan casting, not casting news. But if the internet is right, McKenna Grace may have the rare combination of resemblance, acting range, musical ability and personal connection to Britney that could make her a compelling choice.
