Netflix’s upcoming series The Body is shaping up to be one of the streamer’s most provocative new dramas, combining teenage sexuality, religious repression, queer desire and supernatural horror. Created by Quinn Shephard, the writer-director behind Under the Bridge, the eight-episode series takes inspiration from cult favourites including Jennifer’s Body, Carrie and Heavenly Creatures.
Set in the world of an all-girls Catholic school, the show promises a dark, unsettling take on teenage friendships, forbidden desires and the dangers of trying to suppress them.
What is The Body about?
The story follows the Lions, a rebellious all-girls Catholic school dance team whose members are caught between religious expectations and their own increasingly reckless behaviour.
Led by captains Anya Butler and Elise Zakaria, the group performs a drug-fuelled initiation ritual involving Grace Franklin, their newest recruit. But the ceremony takes a disturbing turn, triggering prophetic visions and a wave of mass hysteria that spreads throughout their town.
As events spiral out of control, the girls find themselves at the centre of a terrifying mystery. Are they experiencing genuine supernatural phenomena, or is something more psychological at play? Beneath the horror, the series explores the pressures of adolescence, the power of group loyalty and the potentially destructive consequences of shame and repression.
Who stars in The Body?
The cast includes Kristina Bogic as Anya Butler, Sara Boustany as Elise Zakaria and Sofia Wylie as Grace Franklin, the new recruit whose initiation sets the story in motion.
Other cast members include Geena Meszaros as Lisbeth Anderson, Shirley Chen as Maddie Delaney, Jackson Kelly as Leo Anderson, Nnamdi Asomugha as Father Franklin and Louisa Krause as Catherine Anderson. Ashley Madekwe and Marcel Ruiz also feature, while reality-TV fans may recognise Gabby Windey, the former The Bachelorette star and The Traitors winner, as Coach Miller.
Shephard created the series, serves as showrunner and directs the opening episode. Executive producers include actress Riley Keough, best known for Daisy Jones & the Six, alongside Peter Chernin and other producers.

How much sex and nudity can viewers expect?
Sexuality is central to The Body, rather than simply a device for shock value. The series explores queer identity, sexual repression, forbidden desires and the confusion that can accompany growing up in an environment dominated by strict religious expectations.
Viewers can expect sexual tension, provocative teenage behaviour, taboo fantasies, drug use and darkly irreverent humour. The show’s marketing emphasises its steamy, boundary-pushing approach, although the precise amount of nudity and explicit sexual content has not been fully established in the material released so far.
Its provocative themes are closely tied to the wider story, examining how guilt, desire and social pressure can collide with potentially devastating consequences.
When does The Body arrive on Netflix?
The Body is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on 11 November 2026, with eight episodes planned. An official trailer and first-look images have already offered a glimpse of its unsettling atmosphere and Y2K-inspired teen aesthetic.
With its mix of supernatural mystery, Catholic-school scandal, queer themes and dark comedy, The Body could appeal to fans of Jennifer’s Body, Carrie and Mean Girls. The biggest question is whether the series can deliver a satisfying explanation for its increasingly disturbing events.
One thing is clear: this is not a conventional coming-of-age drama. It promises a provocative exploration of teenage girlhood, where friendship, faith, sexuality and fear collide, and where one disastrous ritual may change everything.
