We previously featured The Burton D’Agostini Procedure for taking us on a psychedelic trip with the warm and immersive single, Would You, so when we found out that the project was back with Float Over Here, and Strange Condition from their album, Standing with a Ghost, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to spotlight both singles.
First up is Float Over Here, which opens with textured drums tapping into a high spiritual quotient, expanding with cerebral guitar riffs, and eventually a more psychedelic Americana twang with atmospheric vocals. The lyrics tap into familiar territory with the hook, “You make a grown man howl and now I’m howling for you…”
It unfolds as a captivating journey with instrumental mastery. The metaphorical prose is laced with poetic prowess and an invite of “why don’t you float over here…”. Again, there is cinematic allure attached to the song, perfect for a multitude of sync placements, namely a supernatural TV show with werewolves like The Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, The Originals, True Blood or Being Human. We could also imagine the track being featured in American Gods, The Wolfman, Only Lovers Left Alive, Practical Magic, The Craft and A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
What makes Float Over Here compelling is how the duo balance Americana with more expansive psychedelic vibes. The guitar work has a warm, organic feel and the drums provide a hypnotic pulse. The vocals retain a brooding and intimate, human quality amidst the atmospheric production tapping into mysterious notions. We’d love to hear this at a festival like Secret Garden Party or Rooted.

For some background, The Burton D’Agostini Procedure was formed by longtime musical collaborators Jeff Burton and John D’Agostini. The pair have spent decades developing their creative chemistry since meeting in college and forming their first band. With Burton handling vocals and lyrics, D’Agostini engineering, and both artists producing the music, the duo have clearly invested considerable care in their arrangements.
There is a lovely balance between the familiar and the strange throughout Float Over Here. We hear the spirit of Pink Floyd, the psychedelia of The Flaming Lips, and the contemporary groove of Tame Impala, but there is no doubt that The Burton D’Agostini Procedure are creating a universe unto their own design.
There is something wonderfully transportive about the composition, and we are excited to see how it sits alongside Strange Condition and the remainder of Standing with a Ghost. We have added Float Over Here to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists.
