Drawing us in with an intricate and textured drum performance featuring a dark-wave guitar energy, Komaframe opens Overthinking with intrigue and drama. There is an almost jungle-meets-breakbeat edge to the drum work which gives the track dimensionality.
A static astral synth emerges to add a futuristic edge to the production and there is no doubt that the composition holds a cinematic allure. We could imagine Overthinking being featured in a movie like Luc Besson‘s Lucy, or a film like Limitless. Equally, it would be a great fit for a dramatic scene in a TV show like Black Mirror.
Another cerebral synth emerges taking us into a more psychedelic territory, which is followed by a brooding electric guitar performance, all the while, the track holds up its high-octane, nocturnal, almost vampiric energy. The subversion is tangible and we could imagine experiencing this in a gritty goth bar in Berlin or East London.
The track is hypnotic and the sonic switch-ups keep us enthralled throughout. We can totally understand why Komaframe describes it as being “perfect for a chase scene at 200 km per hour.”

The Rome-based solo project creates instrumental compositions that blur the boundaries between alternative rock, psychedelia and stoner music, while drawing inspiration from the shadowy atmospherics of Massive Attack and the experimental restlessness of Radiohead. Those influences make sense here, but Overthinking still feels like its own beast.
Needless to say, we are impressed by the sheer atmosphere of the track and have added Overthinking to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Komaframe including Working on a New Brain.
