JF Roy explores Christian faith, perseverance and the promise of spiritual renewal through theatrical rock anthem, The Morning Light

Establishing the mood with a pizzicato guitar melody, a brooding chord and textured drums, JF Roy opens The Morning Light with poetic prowess and optimism as he sings, “Thinking about this fight, every journey starts with an idea, trying to find my way, searching for a path that’s clear, I’ve always felt that things will turn out alright, the morning light comes if you let it, the morning light will come if you let it in…”

We immediately connect with the intentional, philosophical and spiritual depth that manifests with JF Roy‘s message of hope and perseverance. The soundscape taps into 80s notions with a theatrical edge. Fans of bands like Journey would absolutely be able to vibe with what JF Roy has created.

As for the message, it feels zeitgeist and important, delivered at a time when we, as a collective, need it the most. The track holds an undeniable cinematic allure, and we could imagine it being featured in The Pursuit of Happyness, Rocky Balboa, or The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. It could also manifest a sync placement in a TV show like My Life with the Walter Boys, or perhaps PLUR1BUS on Apple TV.

On a sonic niveau, The Morning Light is a fusion of classic rock grandeur with contemporary alternative sensibilities. Rather than simply presenting hope as an abstract ideal, JF Roy acknowledges uncertainty and struggle with a theatrical sweep of arena rock. The chord changes for the middle eight really tap into a high emotional quotient too.

At the heart of the composition is JF Roy‘s Christian faith. This informs the song’s deeper message of redemption, surrender and spiritual renewal. As the chorus reveals, “He is the light… in you…” which shifts the narrative beyond the universal experience of searching for direction and embraces a more personal expression of faith. We are God, we are the universe, we are the light.

Now based in Alberta, the Canadian singer-songwriter draws from an eclectic range of influences, including The Beatles, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam and Stone Temple Pilots, alongside contemporary Christian artists such as Brandon Lake, Zach Williams and Phil Wickham.

Needless to say, we are in awe, and hugely grateful to JF Roy for this message in the wake of the full moon. We have added The Morning Light to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of JF Roy, including Sundress, Madeline, and Is The World On Fire?.
