Establishing the mood with an emotive, cinematic guitar soundscape featuring cosmic frequency and cerebral motifs, PROJECT: Beyond opens The End with instrumental precision, expanding with an atmospheric riser and ethereal vocal harmonies into a luscious alternative rock energy.
We experience the introspective lyrics, “In my mind, I can see your face it gets me every time, take me for a ride I want to feel alive…” before the production builds with a high-octane and bold energy. We appreciate the ebbs and flows, the introduction of a soft break-beat vibe, which cements the genre-expansive nature of the track.
There are notions of nostalgia that come to life here, but a deep-rooted futurism in the sonic switch-ups that keep us enthralled throughout. What stays solid is the high emotional quotient of the track, amidst the tempo shifts and waves of raw moments with dimensional build-ups, including a screamo middle eight followed by a transcendental electric guitar performance that leads us to an epic climax.
There is an undeniable cinematic allure, and we could imagine the song being featured in a film like Limitless or Blade. The track would also be perfect for a TV show like The Day of the Jackal. Fans of 2000s nu metal and alt bands including Linkin Park, ADEMA, System of a Down and Disturbed would be able to connect with what PROJECT: Beyond are delivering.
We learn that The End is PROJECT: Beyond‘s fifth single, and they confess, “The song has been with us for years, long enough for life to keep adding more to it. Experiences of grief and hardship have revealed dimensions we could never have anticipated when we first wrote it, without erasing what the song already was. The music follows that same movement.”
The self-produced, independent outfit continues on a more philosophical level, “An ending can never be separated from the story it completes, and the story it begins. In that sense, the song has come to embody its own idea. It belongs to what brought it here, what it has come to carry, and whatever it may still become part of. Nothing exists in isolation.“
This existential and conscious depth really resonates with us and definitely comes through in their lyrics. For some context, the band was formed in 2021 by Johann Kjørsvik Lothe and Stefan Åsheim.
