We last featured ESTRADA Music Project for sharing a high emotional quotient with cinematic and personal new release, Verso Melódico, so when we heard that Alejandro Javier Estrada was back with Looking Out The Window, our curiosity was piqued and we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Looking Out The Window opens with an acoustic guitar and dark wave rock frequencies as Alejandro shares poetic prowess and deep-rooted introspective depth. The essence of the song is highly relatable with the hook, “looking out the window is the best thing I can do…”. This resonates on so many levels.
There is something deeply poignant about the simplicity of this premise. We learn that the song was written during a period of strict medical isolation. Alejandro confesses, “Earlier this year, I spent time isolated in a single room during a medical treatment. With nowhere to go, my entire view of the world shrank down to watching life happen outside through the glass. That stillness turned into Looking Out the Window.”
He adds, “When you are stuck in one room during treatment, your entire relationship with time changes. The window becomes your only connection to normal routines, daylight, and other people. I wrote this track to capture that specific kind of quiet – the frustration, the patience, and the headspace you enter when you have nothing to do but watch and wait.”
We could imagine Looking Out The Window working beautifully in a series such as Normal People or The Leftovers. There is also an intimacy here that could suit a film such as Aftersun, where understated music is allowed to sit alongside moments of silence, memory and personal reflection.
For some context, Estrada Music Project is the musical project of Alejandro Javier Estrada, who lives in Scotland and works in a hospital alongside writing music in the evenings. Alejandro describes himself as a man, son, husband, father, friend and doctor, with his songwriting deeply connected to the love and support he finds within his family.
Looking Out The Window is the first preview of an upcoming full-length album scheduled for later this year. Needless to say, the track feels like another deeply personal chapter from Estrada Music Project, transforming a very specific period of stillness into something we can connect with on a much wider level.
