We previously featured C’batch for turning restlessness into introspection with the evocative single, Trapped, so when we found out that the artist was back with Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light) 4 – Cinematic, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his universe once again.
Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light) 4 – Cinematic opens with a glistening soundscape and immersive synths featuring a sublime guitar performance and astral percussion notions. The opus expands with a warm, notably cinematic, feel with an 80s/90s juxtaposition. We appreciate the dynamics and could imagine this being the opening sequence of an episode of Melrose Place, or an iconic 1980s film like When Harry Met Sally.
The staccato strings that manifest add an orchestral energy, whilst the bold and transcendental guitar builds, only to pull out briefly to create a more introspective and meditative sentiment with cosmic synths, before an epic guitar reprise and eventual deconstruction.
We learn that Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light) 4 – Cinematic is a cinematic, atmospheric experience built around an expressive solo guitar performance by Stephen H. Cumberbatch. It was originally recorded over C’batch’s composition Round & Round, and the guitar solo inspired him to create an entirely new musical setting, placing the guitar at the centre.
Part of the EP Our Little Pooh Pea (The Last Light), the track is designed to reflect C’batch’s broader “Vault” philosophy of revisiting earlier performances and compositions, using contemporary production to discover new creative dimensions within them.
