Drawing us in with a cosmic riser, expanding into a dimensional synthscape with a high emotional quotient, Killian Caputo and Elle Vee open Loved Properly with cinematic allure and otherworldly details. We immediately connect with the cerebral and atmospheric EDM production, where orchestral textures, trap-inspired drums and shimmering synths cohesively create a huge emotional resonance before the melodic bass drops arrive.
There is something super immersive about the track. The contrast between the vulnerable verses and heavier electronic passages gives Loved Properly a genuine emotional arc. It’s almost galactic. As for the message, at its core, Loved Properly explores the love we deserve but never receive with poetic prowess and authenticity. It is a powerful idea, particularly because the lyrics focus not on losing a relationship, but on growing up without receiving the affection, recognition and connection. There is sadness here, but catharsis and healing.
Sonically, we could imagine Loved Properly sitting comfortably within the worlds of artists such as Grimes, NEO 10Y, The Weeknd or ILLENIUM, particularly where electronic production meets darker emotion and cinematic scale. There is also a distinctly sci-fi quality to the soundscape. We could see this accompanying an expansive sequence in Avatar, or playing over its final credits.
That cinematic quality is clearly intentional.As a composer, Killian Caputo has built his musical identity around the meeting point between electronica (cinematic bass, future bass) and orchestral music. We are also intrigued by the forthcoming orchestral version of the track, which will strip away much of the electronic weight and allow the melody and emotion to take centre stage. With violin from Lou Rémy and piano from Killian Caputo, it promises to reveal another side of the composition.
