Establishing the mood with a cosmic riser, astral synths and cerebral, pitched vocalization, Tholly opens Moonlit Habit with poetic prowess, raw authenticity and situational, introspective prose detailing an emotional human connection. We immediately connect with the relatable nature of the prose and the intricate and dynamic production.
There is an undeniable cinematic allure that manifests, and it is clear that Moonlit Habit would be able to secure a sync placement in a TV show like Elite, Euphoria, Knokke Off or Beauty in Black. The nocturnal atmosphere and high emotional quotient make it suited to scenes involving late-night reflection or complicated relationships.
Moonlit Habit is about what happens after a relationship ends, tapping into how the emotional patterns remain. Tholly does this in a self-realized and cathartic way as he confronts the version of himself that disappeared inside that relationship. The song explores heartbreak, unhealthy coping mechanisms and the difficult process of rebuilding. As he puts it, “At its core, it’s not about missing the girl; it’s about missing who I was before the relationship and fighting to reclaim the parts of myself I lost.”
That perspective gives the track considerably more depth. The recurring idea of replaying painful experiences becomes psychological. Memories become habits and nights become triggers. Escapism becomes another form of repetition. Tholly ultimately recognizes that avoiding pain does not make it disappear. “The experiences we avoid will continue replaying until we’re willing to face them honestly.”

Perhaps the most powerful detail is the story behind the recording space itself. Tholly transformed the room he once built for his former partner into his music studio. “I turned the room I built for her into the room where I rebuilt myself.” As for his artist moniker, Tholly recounts, “The name Tholly carries a deeper meaning for me. My close friend and fellow artist, Trigga Man Mic, used to call me “Brentholomew,” a play on my real name, Brent, which eventually became Tholly. He was an incredibly talented artist and one of the people who inspired me to start producing music seriously again. He passed away before we could finish the album we were creating together, so the name is more than an artist identity – it carries a piece of his memory with me. Every release under Tholly is part of continuing the creative journey we started.”
We love how raw and real the track is and have added Moonlit Habit to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Tholly, including Talk About It, and NIGHTTIME.
