Drawing us in with dimensional, psychedelic percussion textures and emotive piano, The Myth Pool open In It Together with a high emotional quotient as they share the lyrics, “Said we were in it together, we thought we were in it for good, we did a lot we didn’t want but thought we should…”
The opus expands with a raw authenticity and astral frequencies as we experience poetic prowess with metaphorical depth and a subtle 80s adjacency. There is an undeniable cinematic allure that manifests, solidified by the cosmic nuances. We could imagine In It Together being featured in a TV show like Euphoria on HBO, or The Shards. It could also secure a sync placement in a Sofia Coppola or Luca Guadagnino production.
The evolution of the synth production and layered vocals is sublime and euphorically introspective. The final addition of an electric guitar for the final refrain adds further value to the already dynamic and immersive track. We appreciate how In It Together feels both nostalgic and futuristic. There are clear echoes of Peter Gabriel, Wendy & Lisa and Spoon, but there is no doubt that The Myth Pool are manifesting a sonic universe unto their own design. The alien artwork is dope too and gives the song a whole new cosmic meaning. We will be playing this to the aliens upon open contact!
There is also something deeply human about the story behind the composition. We learn that the track began with a 2020 demo and a simple GarageBand loop before Amie Penwell and Vicente Rodriguez started building something together. Rodriguez describes the process as asking, “what does it wanna be?” and that ethos is audible throughout the track.
The DIY approach only adds to the appeal. As Penwell says, “We’re letting it happen organically.” And Rodriguez captures the project’s creative freedom perfectly when he explains, “we can make this be whatever we want it to be!” That sense of possibility is perhaps the most exciting thing about The Myth Pool.
