Establishing the mood with a bright and cerebral soundscape with astral motifs, expanding with a fierce and high-octane bass guitar performance, The Bap opens All I Need with a spacey, futuristic energy. The opus expands with warmer tones and the lyrics, “I’m alone in the water, sinking deep, I’ve been thinking about it, you and me… You’re the one I need to call on when it all gets a little too hard to take, I don’t want another stranger…”
We immediately connect with the notions of human connection that manifest and the raw, human-created production which is dynamic, hypnotic and psychedelic all at the same time. As for the message of the song, it’s super relatable, tapping into subtle metaphors, but really comes to light as a call for connection – both for humans and marine life.
There is something enthralling with the way the live instrumentation interacts with the electronica. The Bap‘s bass performances feel primal, whilst the psychedelic synth details and aquatic sound design manifest in a transportive energy. The Bap explains that the track was inspired in part by N-Trance‘s Set You Free – a song that holds particular significance after being played at his wedding in 2007.
From there, he began dissecting the elements and building All I Need around “catchy bass hooks, water sounds, and marine-life influences”. The visual world surrounding All I Need takes this aquatic concept even further. The underwater music video places The Bap‘s skill on the bass alongside dolphins and other sea life, creating an immersive visual experience.
We also appreciate the authenticity behind the track’s creation. The Bap built All I Need independently from his home studio using GarageBand. In essence, All I Need serves as a call for connection wrapped inside a futuristic, aquatic dance experience. We could easily imagine All I Need landing a sync placement in a TV show like Elite or Knokke Off on Netflix with its Eurodance tendencies. Fans of Robyn would also be able to vibe with All I Need.
Needless to say, we are captivated by what The Bap is creating, and have added All I Need to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst continuing to explore the artist’s wider universe, including the Radio Edit and Club Mix, plus My Sweet Muzak and Warrior.
