Establishing the mood with a bold and emotional piano performance, H.UI opens Bleedthrough with ethereal vocals and introspective, poetic prowess as she sings, “I fill my time with sounds, mindless chatter, repetitive songs, nights when podcasts worked better than melatonin, just so I don′t hear the voices within…”
We immediately connect with the raw authenticity and the high emotional quotient. There’s an existential and dark romantic depth here that fans of Lana Del Rey and Mariah Carey’s more emotional ballads will be able to connect with. In essence, Bleedthrough is about trying to drown out painful thoughts and inner turmoil.
H.UI expresses her struggle with loneliness and the desire to be understood. Speaking on the message of the piano ballad, H.UI confesses, “Bleedthrough is about intrusive thoughts and the exhaustion of trying to contain them.” There is a deep relatability at play here, and much of what the Chinese artist shares feels highly zeitgeist as we all search for connection and purpose in our lives.

We could imagine Bleedthrough being featured in a number of films, such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, or a TV series like Euphoria on HBO. There is no doubt that fans Mitski, Laufey, Sara Bareilles, and Tom Odell would also appreciate what H.UI is creating.
We appreciate how H.UI transforms her deeply personal experiences into something universally zeitgeist as we all search for peace and human connection. The track was written during an extended recovery from a rare vocal injury that temporarily threatened her ability to sing.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added Bleedthrough to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we await H.UI‘s debut album, sun in my eyes, and anticipate future releases.
