Establishing the mood with a bold, pizzicato guitar melody that expands into a dynamic funk soundscape, Majestic Souls opens A Yellow Chrysanthemum with cerebral dimensionality. The opus evolves with a playful energy, intricacy and instrumental mastery. We appreciate the immersive notions and the cohesive tapestry of sound that manifests with the production.
The astral piano riffs add a cosmic energy, whilst the textured drums drive us forwards. The subtle melodic percussion triangle details add further dimensionality to the piece before an industrial synth taps into a darker and more subversive expression. There is no doubt that A Yellow Chrysanthemum holds a cinematic allure and would be perfect for a Luc Besson film like Lucy, and most certainly a live experience at Ronnie Scott‘s in London.
We learn that Majestic Souls is a solo artist from Tegucigalpa, Honduras. He wrote, produced, and developed every part of the track independently on his laptop. Speaking on the release, Majestic Souls confesses, “This release is kinda special as it is my first attempt in combining jazz/funk and electronic music. The whole track is full of surprises and has a neat vibe to it which a lot of people can enjoy.”
He adds, “I have always had this love for the acoustic and electronic sounds and I feel like the love for these two are different personalities within. My favourite flowers are chrysanthemums and the yellow chrysanthemum represents my acoustic side.”
We love how the song serves as a reflection of Majestic Souls‘ connection to both acoustic and electronica. The artist also cites the sonic influence of Lemkuuja’s Cheescake+ album, but there is no doubt that he is manifesting a universe unto his own design.
