We previously featured Terra Renae’s masterful ode to love, loss, and the bittersweet comfort of memory, In My Dreams, so when we heard that Terra was back with Slightly Faded, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in her universe once again, and share our thoughts.
Slightly Faded opens with a psychedelic rising soundscape that expands into a fierce and assertive pop energy as Terra shares the lyrics, “I’ve been putting in work in a button down shirt all week, high heels, boss bitch, making money…”. The production is immaculate, with subtle vocal echos, a 2000s adjacency with a contemporary edge that manifests in pop perfection.
As for its message, Slightly Faded is an anthem for anyone who would rather skip the party and embrace the comfort of their own space with some cannabis. Terra taps into the Earth energy represented by her artist moniker, and celebrates the simple pleasure of slowing down, switching off, and intentional solitude. The lyrics are pretty literal and extremely relatable.
We learn that the track was created alongside acclaimed producer Midi Jones and Grammy-nominated songwriter Lauren Christy, and marks an exciting new chapter in Terra Renae‘s career. The release follows her European and U.S. tours supporting Grammy Award-winning artist Macy Gray, and with her debut album All I Have surpassing one million streams, Terra continues to build impressive momentum.
We could also imagine Slightly Faded being featured in a show like Emily in Paris or Nobody Wants This, and fans of early P!NK, Destiny’s Child and TLC would also be able to vibe with what Terra Renae has created. We could also imagine the track being featured in a commercial for a dispensary!
