We last featured Michellar when she explored vulnerability, curiosity and synth-driven emotion with her single, Do We Love Us, so when we heard that the visionary artist was back with Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in her universe once again and share our experience.
Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind opens with an intricate acoustic guitar soundscape with cinematic allure as Michellar sings, “Hey, where are you, waiting for your touch, here I’m sitting under the stars, looking out into the dark, wondering if you’re coming to my calling…”
We are immediately enamoured by the raw authenticity that transmutes, the emotional resonance of the bass and Michellar’s delicate timbre as she shares her soul with a longing depth. The chorus and title of the track feel hugely relatable, and we could imagine Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind being featured in a TV show like My Life with the Walter Boys, or a movie like the recent hit, Obsession.
The track feels like a return to form for Michellar, who has historically experimented with various genres, whilst Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind cements her cinematic and acoustic sound with a high emotional quotient. We love the microtonal inflections in her vocals which manifest with a haunting energy.

We could also imagine this in an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, as there is an existential love vibe that truly comes to life with the track. The electric guitar solo feels like a Lana Del Rey track, whilst the ethereal motifs tap into an almost otherworldly feel as the hook repeats like a mantra.
Speaking on the release, Michellar confesses, “I have had obsessions in tragic ways ….. I can’t control at times. I tend to not say them out loud, but in a way they needed to get expressed.” She adds, “The influences on the production of this song are Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Doors. We wanted to create a psychedelic feel for the song because the beat and melody just had that vibe to it.”
We learn that Michellar collaborated with Nashville-based producer Michael Beckheart, dubbed as “a kindred spirit who shares her passion for psychedelia”, to bring to life the song. As always, we are in awe, and have added Can’t Get You Out Of My Mind to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Michellar‘s exquisite, growing discography.
