We appreciate the world-building that manifests with Polarised by Love, and could imagine this in a futuristic film like Her, Limitless or Lucy. In essence, Polarised by Love is about the exhilarating first spark of attraction. We learn that VelumVelvet is the musical project of Donna James, a nurse, lifelong poet, and songwriter from Brigg, England. Donna began releasing music at the start of 2026 after years of quietly developing her craft. She cites sonic influences including David Bowie, Annie Lennox, Billie Eilish, Daughter, and Ed Sheeran. We can certainly feel this manifest with her avant garde sound with a touch of mainstream appeal.
Donna shares how she transforms her “word soups” into deeply personal songs, and prioritises authenticity over perfection.
