Drawing us in with a cerebral synthscape and pitched ad-libs with an invitation to experience “the real yuee”, Yung Yuee opens The Real Yuee with a play on words and dimensionality. The opus expands with conscious prose reminding us to connect with our most authentic selves.
We appreciate the subversive and futuristic energy that manifests, and could imagine this being featured in a poignant scene of a show like Euphoria on HBO, or Beauty in Black on Netflix. The production is dimensional and the lyricism has a timeless hip-hop familiarity, at the same time as being hella grounded in the present with intentionality.
Fans of Lil Wayne and early Kanye West would be able to connect with what Yung Yuee is sharing. There is also an unmistakable hyper-pop nuance to what the artist is manifesting. He also cites G Herbo, Trippie Redd, Bump J, and Lupe Fiasco as direct influences, which we can feel come to life.
We learn that The Real Yuee was inspired by one of the darkest periods of Yung Yuee‘s life. The rising artist from New Haven tells us that he was struggling with his mental health, relationships and sense of identity.

At this point, he was seeking solace in self-realization and The Real Yuee was the result. It was then recorded just one week before a shooting which left him paralysed, and the song is designed to capture his pain, resilience and determination. It also serves as the opening chapter of his multimedia project, The Trenches Universe (TTU).
He tells us, “I recorded The Real Yuee just one week before I was shot and became a full C4 quadriplegic. It became one of the last songs I ever recorded with my natural voice. Today, it’s more than a song, it’s the first chapter of The Trenches Universe (TTU) and a reminder that while my life changed forever, my creativity didn’t.”
The track feels cathartic and empowering at the same time, and we are grateful that Yung Yuee is creating in the aftermath of so much turmoil. We have added The Real Yuee to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Yung Yuee, including Unexpected, and Walking Dead.
