Establishing the mood with a psychedelic rising synth arpeggio, textured 80s drums and a cosmic vocalization, The New Citizen Kane opens MetalLIC with dimensionality and a pristine pop vocal as he sings, “The metallic shine of neon lights on street wet with that 3am dew…”
We are immediately captivated by the optimistic universe that The New Citizen Kane creates – laced with hedonism, human connection and the idea of enjoying our shared reality. Freedom is a key theme here, something that feels zeitgeist and important at a time when humanity needs it the most.
We appreciate The New Citizen Kane‘s poetic prowess and the cinematic allure that manifests with MetalLIC. There is no doubt that the song would be perfect for a multitude of sync placements, notably a film like Voicemails for Isabelle, in fact, the song really reminds us of Robyn too (her track, Dancing On My Own was heavily featured in that film!). We could also envision MetalLIC being featured in a TV show like Heartstopper on Netflix.
Speaking on the track, which was poignantly released on Pride weekend, The New Citizen Kane confesses, “The song came from a place of surrender. It’s about those moments where instinct wins. The moments where you stop overthinking, stop trying to predict every outcome, and allow yourself to be present. The metallic shine of neon lights after rain. Attraction. Creativity. Possibility. Freedom. That’s what the song feels like to me.”
The rising artist continues, “Pride means different things to different people, but for me it always comes back to freedom. Freedom to exist honestly. Freedom to love openly. Freedom to stop shrinking yourself to make other people comfortable. MetalLIC is ultimately about that liberation.”
We love the message of the song and the accompanying music video that was filmed in Brazil, seeing The New Citizen Kane perform with vibrancy and boundless energy, aligned with his intention detailed above.
We learn that MetalLIC launches Kane’s FREE TO FEEL era, which follows on August 14, and serves as the first installment of PSYCHEDELIKA Pt.2, described as “an ambitious four-part album experience exploring awakening, desire, survival, and release.”
Needless to say, we cannot wait to experience this, and in the meantime, we have added MetalLIC to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we await The New Citizen Kane‘s future releases!
