Drawing us in with immersive piano chords and ad-libs of “Na-na-na-na…” with percussion clicks, Remik Erikson opens Nacho with dimensionality and a high emotional quotient. The opus expands with a captivating vocal as Remik shares the lyrics, “You can dress it all up go, you can crisp it, drip it, stack it, stick it, snap it, crack it, slide it, sauce it, toast it, roast it, slice it, dice it, top it, whatever you desire, set my mouth on fire…”
It’s clear that the track unfolds as a cinematic ode to nachos. For some background, nachos are a popular Mexican snack made from crispy tortilla chips, topped with melted cheese and often served with ingredients like jalapeños, salsa, beans, and guacamole. They were invented in 1943 in Piedras Negras by Ignacio ‘Nacho’ Anaya, who created the dish for a group of hungry visitors using simple ingredients he had in the kitchen. The snack became known as “nachos”, named after Anaya’s nickname, “Nacho”, and has since become a favourite food enjoyed around the world.
This time around, Remik Erikson has created a clever play on words with the concept of being “not your baby”, which is an oronym (or a phrasal homophone) for the word Nacho. The cinematic song style feels subversive in its own right and builds into an ethereal EDM vibe with the luscious ad-libs that we experienced at the beginning of the song.

There is no doubt that the song would be perfect for a Super Bowl advertisement, or a commercial for a Mexican restaurant. Speaking on his inspiration, Remik says, “My wife cooking those nachos got me all riled up. Watching my wife make nachos. All sexy like. And my full desire to have those nachos. It created a rhythm in me that I could not withhold.” On his artistic background, he adds, “Trying to make my wedding day song got me into writing lyrics.”
We learn that Remik Erikson is a Windsor-based artist, and we deeply appreciate his raw, authentic and unconventional approach to music-making. We have added Nacho to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to explore the wider discography of Remik Erikson, including Kreames, andPound Caker.
