Drawing us in with an immersive, reverb-soaked microtonal lyre, expanding into a Britpop vibe with a high spiritual quotient, Sean Macleod opens I’ve Seen You Around with the observational lyrics, “I’ve seen you around, I’ve seen you round the town, I’ve seen you’re up and down, I’ve seen you around…”
The opus expands with luscious power-pop choral motifs as Sean shares his perspective on his muse, how they see each other and the raw sentiment of human connection. We appreciate the simplicity of the prose and the cinematic allure that comes to life.
We could imagine the track being featured in a movie like Sliding Doors, especially as we learn that the track is designed to fuse the ancient sound of the lyre with modern computer technology. The 8-bit electronica notions are sublime and add a futuristic quality to the piece. Sean says “The track is also tuned to the very old tuning system called Pythagorean. The use of this tuning system produces very pure tones.”

We certainly feel this manifest throughout the track. It has a warmth that cannot be replicated. This is fitting as I’ve Seen You Around is also the first single to be released from Sean MacLeod’s experimental album We Don’t See that We Don’t See which is due for release August.
The track also has a hypnotic allure, with psychedelic nuances, and this feels like a great fit for today’s Summer Solstice and the incoming heat wave. The repeated hook resonates like a mantra, and we could also imagine hearing this at Cirque Gitane, the rooftop of Petit Ermitage in West Hollywood, where songs of this nature often find their home.
Needless to say, we are in awe, and have added the cinematic and unique track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Sean Macleod, and anticipate the release of We Don’t See that We Don’t See in August.
